Day 1: We head west toward Colorado on a tour that is sure to be an adventure to remember for both young and old alike. This afternoon we stop in Burlington, CO, to ride the Kit Carson County Carousel. Forty-six carved animals adorn the antique carousel which has been restored to its 1920’s condition. Following this nostalgic ride we continue to Denver where we spend the next three nights.

2: Our morning begins with a tour through Hammond’s Candy Factory. We find out first-hand how hard candy is made. Next we visit the Downtown Aquarium, boasting more than a million gallons of underwater exhibits. For lunch today we head to Casa Bonita. In the afternoon we visit the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, one of the largest natural history museums in the country.

3: After a day of learning it is time for us to experience firsthand some of the wonders of the Colorado Mountains. The Georgetown Loop Railroad, pulled by a 1920’s locomotive engine takes us through silver mining country. A stop along the route allows us to take a tour of the Lebanon Silver Mine. Following a pizza party lunch, Clear Creek Rafting serves as our guide as we take a 11⁄2 hour beginner’s whitewater rafting trip down Clear Creek. Those who choose not to do the raft trip may go into historic Idaho Springs to browse on own.

4: With exciting Colorado adventures fresh in our mind we head back to Kansas.
