Day 1: We are keeping alive a way of life that began when the steamer VIRGINIA first navigated the upper Mississippi River in 1823. During the early 1800’s, a trip on the steamboat meant traveling in comfort and style, safe from the dangers of Indian attack or frontier ruffians. Today we travel through central Kansas and Missouri.  Night in the Quad Cities.

2: Fast, elegant, and quiet as she slips through the water, the TWILIGHT, a diesel powered replica, is the most richly appointed riverboat to be launched in a hundred years. Victorian steamboat architecture inside and out pleases the eye. There are three decks with comfortable dining salons, and sundecks and lounge chairs for those who wish to snooze in the sun. After boarding the boat, there is a continental breakfast. The TWILIGHT takes pride in maintaining the river’s grand tradition of good and bountiful food. Our cruise today covers 94 miles up the Mississippi River to Dubuque, IA. Lunch and dinner are served aboard both days. There are morning and afternoon snacks and complimentary coffee and iced tea are always available. Night at the Grand Harbour Hotel located on the banks of the Mississippi River in Dubuque.

3: In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, trolley service will shuttle passengers between the hotel and the National Mississippi River Museum and some of Dubuque’s other fine attractions. After a good morning in Dubuque, we board the TWILIGHT for the trip down river. As before, there is plenty to eat, historic comments by the captain, free bingo and live music. After dinner we disembark and travel to Coralville for the night.

4: Our land cruise is as pleasant as our river cruise as we glide over pleasant interstates to our home in central Kansas.
