Itinerary
Day 1: Today we are headed to Bentonville in the northwest corner of Arkansas. On arrival we visit Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Developed by the Walton Family Foundation, Crystal Bridges’ galleries hold an impressive collection of American art from Colonial times to the present. The museum grounds in the picturesque Ozark countryside have many walking trails highlighted by sculptures and gardens through which visitors may stroll. Dinner is included this evening. Night in Bentonville.
2: This morning we have a chance to visit Bentonville with a local guide including a visit to the Walmart Museum which is in the original Walton 5&10 building. Later we travel south along the Arkansas and Oklahoma border. We meet a guide this afternoon to ride with us on the picturesque Talimena Drive in the hills of eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Our next two nights are at the Queen Wilhelmina State Park Lodge near Mena, AR. Dinner is included this evening.
3: Today we travel south and east to Crater of Diamonds State Park. The park is the only diamond producing site in the world that is open to the public. After we hear about this unique park and the 70,000 diamonds found in the area since 1906 there is opportunity to look for diamonds on our own. Next we head for William’s Tavern in Washington where we enjoy a delicious lunch. This afternoon a local guide gives us a tour of Old Washington Historic State Park which showcases 19th-century buildings and typical lifestyles of southwest Arkansas. A late afternoon drive back to Mena allows a relaxing evening back at the Queen Wilhelmina State Park Lodge.
4: Our route today takes us through Oklahoma and back into Kansas with pleasant thoughts of this one of a kind “Arkansas Getaway”.
