Christmas in Texas
7 Days - $1239
December 1 - December 7, 2020
Day 1: Heading south out of Kansas brings us to Oklahoma City by mid-day. Here we visit the Myriad Gardens and Crystal Bridge which are decorated in their holiday finest. Later we drive on to Chickasha where a community effort has helped to put on a dazzling light display in Shannon Springs Park. The Chickasha Festival of Lights has been recognized as one of the top ten holiday light shows in the nation and features over 3.5 million twinkling lights. Night in Chickasha.
2: Our first stop in the state of Texas is at the Fort Worth Stockyards. A short tour gives us a feel for the days when the Stockyards were the last major stop along the Chisholm Trail to rest and purchase supplies before continuing north. There will be time to look around before we continue to Dallas. This evening we visit the Dallas Arboretum. Holiday at the Arboretum features a 30-foot tall tree at the center of the gardens, as well as the magnificent The 12 Days of Christmas outdoor exhibit with 25-foot-tall Victorian-style gazebos depicting scenes from the traditional carol. Night in Dallas.
3: Our journey today takes us south toward Waco. We visit Homestead Heritage Craft Village where a tour of the village allows us to meet some of the artisans who will show and tell us about their particular craft. Lunch is included at the craft village. Later we continue to Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country. Fredericksburg was founded by German farmers and the German influence is still quite evident throughout the town. This evening we enjoy dinner in one of the many German restaurants. Night in Fredericksburg.
4: Admiral Chester W. Nimitz was from Fredericksburg and so it is fitting that the National Museum of the Pacific War is located here. After visiting the museum there will be time to enjoy browsing in downtown Fredericksburg. Later we drive to San Antonio where we spend the night in our hotel located on the city’s famous River Walk. After dark a boat cruise on the San Antonio River takes us along the River Walk which is decorated for the season.
5: Today a local guide gives us a tour of San Antonio including the Alamo, SAS Shoe Factory Store, and Market Square famously described as the largest Mexican market outside of Mexico. This afternoon we drive to Waco for the night.
6: This morning we drive to Plano, home of the Prestonwood Baptist Church. Following a buffet lunch we enjoy the church’s production of “The Gift of Christmas”. Following the show we drive north to Denton for the night.
7: We return today through Oklahoma to central Kansas remembering the wonderful things we have experienced on this Christmas in Texas tour.
