Day 1: The Tournament of Roses Parade, the mother of all parades, and the greater Los Angeles area are our destination. Our first day will cross Oklahoma and Texas into New Mexico where we spend the night in Tucumcari.
Today we drive through enchanting New Mexico and Arizona. Night in Flagstaff.
The Southwest is warm and inviting as we travel through western Arizona and southern California, arriving in Anaheim to spend the next four nights.
Today we visit one of the movie studios that have made Los Angeles and Hollywood famous. The tour will give us some insight into the magic of the movie making industry. Later we tour the city with a local guide.
Happy New Year! Our reserved bleacher seating gives us a wonderful view of the spectacular Tournament of Roses Parade. Floral floats, bands from all over North America, and richly bedecked horses parade before us. A snack is provided for the parade. After the parade a return to our hotel allows us to enjoy our favorite Bowl game on TV or an optional visit to Disneyland.
This morning we have a chance to view the parade floats up close at the “Showcase of Floats”. Over 50 floats are parked along two streets which allows us to walk at our leisure and explore one by one. Next we head for Yorba Linda to visit the Richard Nixon Library.
On our way south we visit Mission San Juan Capistrano made famous for the swallows that arrive every spring. In the afternoon we visit the world famous San Diego Zoo, home to more than 3,700 animals representing approximately 660 species. One of the largest zoos in the world, it exhibits some of the Earth's rarest creatures. Night in San Diego.
Today we begin our journey east through southern California and Arizona to Tucson. Next two nights in Tucson.
This is our day to enjoy the old Southwest. We visit the Sonora Desert Museum, Pima Air and Space Museum and Mission San Xavier Del Boc.
Our route today takes us out of Arizona, across southern New Mexico, through El Paso to White’s City at the entrance of Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Night in Carlsbad.
The morning holds a visit to the world famous Carlsbad Caverns where every visit is a new wonder. In the afternoon we travel through the flat rich farmlands of western Texas. Night in Amarillo.
Today we return with pleasant memories of the Tournament of Roses Parade and southern California as we travel through Texas and Oklahoma to return to our departure point.
