Day 1: Today we depart Kansas and drive across northern Missouri enroute to Quincy, IL, which sits on the Mississippi River. Night in Quincy.
2: A short drive north along the mighty Mississippi we come to the river town of Keokuk, IA. A local guide shows and tell us about this quaint river town. Following an included lunch we are on our way east to Peru in north-central Illinois. Night in Peru.
3: Continuing our journey east we arrive in Northern Indiana Amish country mid-afternoon. We visit the Mennohof Mennonite-Amish Visitor Center which provides a good introduction to these distinctive religious communities. Dinner is included this evening. Next two nights in Shipshewana.
4: We begin our day with a local guide who shows us some of the many Quilt Gardens of the area. These gardens are grown to look like the squares of a patchwork quilt. Later we visit Hostetler’s Hudson Museum which boasts the largest collection of Hudson products. Dinner this evening is an Amish cooking demonstration where our hosts show us how they cook.
5: Near the Illinois/Indiana border we visit Fair Oak Farm. This state-of-the-art dairy is home to 30,000 head of cattle. Our tour allows us to see how high-tech equipment is aiding these farmers to operate such a large operation. We also have a chance to visit the cheese and ice cream shops that are a part of the farm. Lunch is included at the farm before we depart for St. Peters, MO, for the night.
6: Today we travel home to Kansas with many fond memories from Indiana Amish Country.
